So If you hadn't already guessed this weeks model is a revist to the Tracy Island house.
After getting a load more parts from Arckit (think I was cooing over that box for several minutes when it arrived) I decided the very first big build I wanted to do was, of course, the Tracy Island house. So I did, and I think its turned out pretty damn awesome!
No thats not a pool on the roof, its a solar array. If youve got a great big roof you might as well put it to good use right...
Now when it came to the inside layout I didnt follow the real thing. It's not got the hidden control rooms and shoots and what not. The layout I ended up with could probably be classed as a bit grand, its got wide corridors, a big double width staircase and lots of rooms. I also tried to get it to have lots of large open living space, didnt want to break up those big glass openings with interior walls and block it off in places, tried to go for the uninterupted view idea like last weeks model.
The first space is a quite large living space with access out onto the terraces from multiple points. Its divided from the next space by the staircase, with a small wide corridor like space joining the two.
The space on the other side of the staircase as a connected dining space and kitchen. An island forms the divide between the dining space and the kitchen.
The kitchen also joins onto the second living space. With another island forming a divide, this island is also set back from this room a bit forming a breakfast bar area. This second living space is larger than the first. The thinking is the first space would be for more formal entertaining and this space would be more for fun and relaxation. Having big sofas in it and even a couple of games tables, pool, table tennis that kind of thing.
Coming off this second living space, on a wide corridor, are two good sized guest bedrooms. With both a door onto the main corridor and also a second door onto a narrow corridor giving quick and more descreet access to the guest bathroom at the back.
At the end of the main corridor is the last space. It's a smaller space than the other living spaces but still a good size. It has little light going into it. It has one window for some light but the rest is solid wall. My thinking was it could be some kind of small home cinema / tv room. Hence the lack of windows.
The first floor space follows along the lines of the second living space on the ground floor. The big double width staircase comes out into a huge open space. The idea is this space would be totally multi purpose and the objects and furniture put into would divide it up. So there could be a sitting area with big sofas and a coffe table and what not, there could be a personal gym area with different workout equipment, there could be an office area with computers and desks. It could be made up of all manner of things. The key idea though is its all open and flows through each, isnt all broken up and split. People could be doing different things but you ca still interact with other and not feel left out as there no walls seperating you. Having no walls splitting the space also gives views out the large glass fronts from where ever you look, you dont have to be in a certain room to get the views you can be anywhere and still see out.
The rest of the rooms on the first floor are along one side. With the first being a small space wrapping around the chimey. My idea was it would be some kind of libary and reading space. With the walls covered with bookshelves and a couple of armchairs arranged towards the fireplace. Making that kind of traditional home libary space. The chimeny is three deep so there's scope for multiple flues, as well as the fireplace on this floor. Its position could maybe allow it to functioning as the cooker extractor flue on the first floor and possibly a pizza oven type thing on the terrace.
Along from the libary space is three ensuite bedrooms. The first to being mirrors of each other and then the last being a bit larger and a different configuration.
Seperate from these rooms is another larger bedroom, the master bedroom, again with ensuite. The master bedroom is made a tad grander by having picture windows looking out into the rest of the building. Giving both views out its own window and also out of the main glass front.
