Model 7: Courtyard House

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

Its been a few weeks since the last post, it was christmas though so I was allowed a break right...

This model is inspired by old style building that are laid out around a central courtyard. Obviously I've put my twist on it and made it my own.

The main shape of the building is a big u shape, with the front doors opening into a large open planned living space in the flat part of the u.

The space beyond the living space on the right hand side is divided into a large bedroom space and ensuite.

The left hand side is similar in layout but as well as another large bedroom and ensuite it also has another space, a smaller guest bedroom and small ensuite. Or possibly a small office space.

Originally the roof was going to be solid but it became apparent that I was running out of tiles so I added some sky lights into the design. I kept the aesthetic of the building very simple, leaving it white and making a feature of the entrance and sunshade with a cladding finish.

The deck looks a bit wobbly, that's because I couldn't get the paper to sit down flat, i'm going to try sticking to a baseboard in the future to hopefully keep it nice and flat.

The original plan with this one was to actually make it two floors but it took all the parts i've got to just do this one floor, plus a few bodges which you might be able to spot with a good eye.

This is by far the biggest model i've done to date. I might come back to it in the future, if and when I get more kit, and make it even bigger with a second floor.
